It is with great enthusiasm for the new year and the potential that it brings for impacting our world that I begin this thread.
Better World Island has gone through a transitional year in 2006. It was a facinating year, the birth of Camp Darfur, the griefing incident, the growth of Manor Meta, The Peace and Justice Center, Center for Water Studies, Integral Island, Half an Apple Project, Care.org lab, and Gardens of Hope. We faced the challange of our creator and mentor Sue having to minimize her role because of health issues, and my own long absence to Africa.
We met and impacted thousands of people through our exhibits and interaction and had an amazing amount of press coverage for Camp Darfur. We have made new friends and allies and discovered that the ways we can grow and learn seem to be limitless.
In the next few weeks, I will be posting about our purpose, focus, leadership structure, and short and long term goals. I encourage you to post your thoughts, critiques, ideas, and brainstorms. Although Better World is a privately owned island, it is the child of Omidyar network dreams and hopes, and to reach its potential it will need each one of us.

Happy New year to all.
I have http://www.betterworldisland.com/ registered on godaddy. I'll have a look into how to make a transfer of the domain name.
Keep up the good work.

By far my favorite shot has to be:

Every group needs a princess ... we are so lucky to have Ray! :D
And on a more serious note:

I was most pleased that we could bring i-Act to Second Life and share it with the residents there.

Traffic. I would like to know your/our ideas about traffic. What is the ideal traffic pattern for us? Who? How often? How many? What are the peak times? Which may tell a little about what is the ideal island...for us. In loving kindness, PT Witte

There seems to be a lock on the forwarding of domains with godaddy.
I'm sure it is possible to do , but i reckon they'll want something for it. I had a similar problem with my provider
Anyhow, the name is up for renewal in may and i'll let it pass (keep an eye on it and preferably put a backorder on it)
If anybody knows an easy way to transfer with Godaddy , let me know and i'm your man.
Carpe Diem

PT, I have the traffic stats for each day on BW and @ Camp Darfur. I haven't gotten them into a format yet that allows us to read the data easily. Each day I get a list of avatar names and time duration within range of the sensor. Any one have ideas how to best use this info? should I use a spreadsheet?
Another factor that contributes greatly is advertising....so far our budget for that is nonexistant with the exception of our personal plot listings. However, we have some good financial news on the horizon so we may just get a bit of a budget :)

On it's way.
Glad for that, for it will allow me to ask you why http://www.chandigo.com/ shouldn't have a place on better world island. I believe it is one of the most inventive new games with perspective coming out east of the Americas. (While probably not understood properly as yet)
So here goes a small proposal,
Could i get a lonely tree on Better world island where i'll hang my game? (50 prims max)
Then again, don't feel obliged. Just tought http://www.chandigo.com/ should be included.

Traffic Stats
We average 35-40 visits per day, this does not include the island tenants.
I only had one stat for an event but we reached over 70 on that day.

So over one year that could be 10,000+, depending on how many repeat visitors we see. I'm guessing we get a lot of repeat visitors, so maybe half that are unique users.

Wow,
a work filled week doing up our exhibits at the NMConnect Media Arts Symposium. FEB 11-13
Love working inworld with all of you, Meron, Linda, Nick, Bruce, Xin, Evonne, and finally meeting up with Darlene inworld!
This exhibit is a MUST SEE and I urge all of you who have access to Second Life to come inworld and visit our installations on the Outreach Sim.
We have incoporated so many Better World and O'net projects and we are so proud to be connected to them. Peace Tiles,Camp Darfur,Center for Water Studies,Peaceful Tomorrows, Partners for Others, SOLID, I-ACT, and the list goes on!
We also built an exhibit for IRC who are just getting started in SL and needed a little hand :)
We are deepening our relationship with Care.org whose IDP camp project we are sponsoring and hosting on Better World Island come and see the building blocks of that camp right next to us at NMConnect :)
and the BIGGEST NEWS
our own Sue Braiden will be hosting a Better World Building Discussion @ the Better World exhibit on Monday FEB 12 at 2:00 p.m. PST

http://www.omidyar.net/group/netchange/news/28/83/
in a new configuration.I love when what seemed farfetched becomes the norm...welcome to 2007!:)

Sometimes the best way to look forward is to start by looking back. Lets begin by taking a little time to reminisce about the past year. Lets talk about our favorite moments of 2006 on Better World Island :) and a few pics wouldn't hurt. :)
