Appreciate and agree with your concerns re: deforestation for biodiesel. This is a big issue in SE Asia with Palm Oil.

In answer to your original post, I have been thinking the very same thing for many years now. I bought a VW golf tdi and ran it on 100% biodiesel for several years (I just sold it to a friend because I am traveling).
