we have a parallel thread on key uses of facebook seen from its own best features https://www.omidyar.net/group/co mmunity-general/news/1871/

Facebook is designed to empower urgent interactions between people focuses on same deep trust conetxts. It is arguably the perfect compliment to omidyar

with the coming closure: we will aim to feature one facebook club founded per omidyar net member in this regsieter (simply post its name/bookmark and we will update this top contents list)

CLUB NAME/ FOUNDER/ GOALS/ link within facebook

20000 Macrae - how can 20000 humanitarians reconnect networks before their web closes http://www.facebook.com/group.ph p?gid=2466091965

omidyar.net Linda Nowakowski - general is facebook for onet members? http://www.facebook.com/group.ph p?gid=2401434967

If you don't know how to use http://www.facebook.com but want to, I suggest you start a thread at onet and tell me to come and add my experiences. Anotherw ay is to register at http://www.facebook.com and invite me chris macrae to be friend

This particular onet thread INVITES those who are at facebook. One of the interesting features of facebook is that your past week of activities is very clearly diarised. I invite anyone who has had an interesting diary connecting urgent projevcts or colaboration entrepreneurs to post it up here. To that you will also need to program html which has been explained in one of the help conversations.

Let's facebookers play and help those who have no idea want connectivity and colaboration they are missing see anew what 2.1 can do

we aim to openly catalogue hi-trust worlds at http://hi-trust.tv - nominations anyone?

Linda has been asking me a series of questions at the facebook group friends of omidyar http://www.facebook.com/group.ph p?gid=2401434967

If I understand the gist of the questions, they concern:

what do we do at the empowerment/transparency/sustainability networks that my fathaer and I have been linking entrepreneurial revolutionary maps around for 33 years?

(Next year being my dad's 85th birthday and 60th as the most conected journalist of entrepreneurial revolution since his career on that began at The Economist in 1950 - a paper foouded by a compatriot and arguably the 19th century world's leading social or colaboration entrepreneur James Wilson in 1983). We're inviting 1000 people to dad's birthday party provided they will all bring an open source sustainability publication project with them)

So as this raises quite big questions - several hundred londoners and other collaboration citizens have started up a wiki around it and related questions -eg at http://wiki.espians.com/ER and http://wiki.espians.com/User:Ent repreneur76

I think the simplest or quickest answer to Linda's volley of questions is that a few years ago I developed a very small meeting game on what do people in this network see as sustainability crises. I only played the game at groups who had declared that sustainbility was their special interest. I was surprised when I first played this that 85% of people surveyed turned out to believe that sustainability was an issue but one that was getting better. I deduce that wherever we meet in chnage world webs like this -there are different segments of people. These include those who: around us we need to keep doing a lot of work on sustainability.transparency/empowerment but its getting better

those who believe that in too many locations sustainability/transparency/ empowerment is getting worse; and that globalisation as a system links why this is getting worse

I am in this latter group. And as a mathematician I know that when a system is spinning viciously the three foci to look at first are what is measured; what communications are being empowered as well as what are being powered over; and what is being action learnt. Since the 5 worst career yeras of my life at the global management consultancy arm of a Big 5 accounting firm. I have spent 17 years or more looking into all 3 of tehse areas and mathematically they reveal exponential destruction and urgent tipping points that networks I conect with now wish to map out openly so we can all collaborate in fixing them

Incidentally where I said as a mathematician ,there are other groups I could appeal to eg Gandhians as Mahatma converted my grandad a raj judge who first imprisoned him and latter helped write up the constitution of India's In dependence Mahatma taught my dad the way you transform a system to a higher order one is you engage all 3 dimensions simultaneously - learning, muddled professions and media

Regarding learning - this month we publish the world's first travel guide to learing crisis - the open source deal is you look at ita 12 articles - keep any you like; trash the others; blend in local articles you like; and publish your empwerment elarning travel guide whether you do it now by web, in open space meetings or in print or whatever media or mediation space you know how to replay. I will put the prinetr's version of guide up as a file at omidyar or you can ask for a "proofs" version at chris.macrae @yahoo.co.uk or if you facebook you can debate the emerging contents at http://www.facebook.com/group.ph p?gid=2344268221

My other (try to) answer Linda: I know other people who are far better and more deeply qulaified than me to provide simple intros to these big words like:

transparency http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q 1vK6BsMBbk

empowerment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n JUBpg2xcf4

sustainability http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7INaoNy3P4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C ToYjQFRxXE

action learning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C MmKM9wAOcc health http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X 8tOnFxxz5E

media http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fheo3p4bVMg http://www.ted.com/index.php/tal ks/view/id/79

poverty's injustice (economics nonsense/professional untruths) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F 3T6VWQZb1s etc

I gather from Linda that in Thailand its not possible to see youtubes. Well maybe omidayr should sponso some trascripts of the deepest videos of these words. I am not saying that the three I have norted above are collaboration world's best but sure I would love to hear our alternative nominations

and one more exciting newish feature on facebook- everyone is now encouraged to be an agent colecting for the worldwide cause they believe in most - if you are facbokk registered which pnly takes a minute to do the minimums of then you can see my choice at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/ view_cause/6719?recruiter_id=221 2610

and of course I would love to hear your choice

with the coming closure of omidyar.net it could be important to Q&A understanding how to use facebook the fastest growing connection tool there is

hardly any platform pairing could be more different than onet and facebook - for example even most threads give you 15 minutes editing time- interestingly pictures give you all the time you need!

instead of only being able to internal mail people one by one, you can mail up to 20 friends in starting a conversation, and should you wish (your host country's net permitting) facebook enables you to eg attach a youtube turning the mail inti a video reviewers club; facebook lets you choose causes and recruit for them

if you have questions on how to make hi-connecting use facebook, I will try find people who can answer them (at elast explain how they use face)
