HELP US TAKE THE DIE OUT OF DIARRHEA!

Waterborne-Diarrheal Illnesses (WDI) claim the lives of 3 million people annually (1.9 million are children).

We know how to cure it - each life-saving treatment costs just 12 cents

We know how to prevent it - clean water, health education and basic latrines

What are we doing about it? - we intend to raise awareness & money

If we raise $12,500 in December, Omidyar Network will match our donations

To read the full funding proposal including the funding group rationale

$25,000 - or $5000 per project - would enable so much good to happen!

You can make donations here for any of the 5 projects or all! If you wish to donate to a specific project, please specify it in the PayPal transaction. If nothing is specified, the funds will be distributed by the team to attempt to keep things even.

Every attempt will be made to see that your contribution is in those matched by ONet, but if all of the matching funds are used prior to the transfer of your contribution to the appropriate NPO, your contribution will not be matched but will still go to an important cause. Donations made here will not be tax deductible as they would be if you donated directly to the NPO link on the workspace. Thanks in advance for your support.

EDIT: Added DropCash

As always, Linda's template workspace is just ace.

Can we add one (or more?) Dropcash boxes for those wishing to donate by Paypal. LemonAid Fund does not take Paypal donations and a one-stop visit to the Donations page here would be an easy way for someone new to Onet to donate.

The record of the donation would be with the Dropcash box, and provided the donor has signed one of the Project registers, we will know where to forward to money to.

We will be free to put "Unsigned for" donations to the Dropcash box wherever we decide later in December.

A Dropcash would also be a good point for use to store temporarily any monies we raise through our own fundraising efforts. They could also be assigned to particular projects once we see how the different projects are being supported.

I can't really see why we would need more than one Dropcash to cover all the team's projects. Have I overlooked anything?

Looks great. Does it make sense to cover up the workspace until Dec 1 or at least put up a big warning not to contribute until then?

Haney,

How do you cover up a workspace?

Do you need a very big e-tarpaulin? ;)

By Haney Armstrong (CCAL30) (1784), Wed, 29 Nov 2006 11:45:07 PST

Easier even! You can delete the info in it and save, and Dec 1 restore the complete version.

Thanks, Haney. Certainly sounds easier than using a mouse to drag a tarpaulin. And avoids any animal cruelty.

I've put up warnings not to donate for now.

If, team mates, you think we should remove the workspace completely, don't forget I've peppered it with warnings that will need to be removed before it is restored.

Don't forget to list yourself in the summary workspace .

Just picked up the prints- a little glitch- they are printed 11" x 17" ! - packaged its 13" x 19" shuckss... I apologize for that. My mistake being in a hurry. They did a wonderful job, though.

OK....

  • We have a dropcash box
  • I have it at the top of this thread in the initial post
  • I have added it to the very bottom of the Workspace.
  • If you want to put it up, it depends on where you are posting
  • In the Q4 Funding Project group

".. on-include :: Dropcash WDI"

  • In any other group on ONet

".. on-include :: /fp06/Dropcash WDI"

  • If you want to refer someone to the Dropcash Campaign outside of ONet
    • Either link them to the discussion, the workspace
OR

I would really feel more comfortable if the following people all checked in here and indicated approval of the workspace.

  1. Haney Armstrong
  2. David Bale
  3. Phyllis Hurley
  4. Walusimbi willy
  5. Elizabeth Garcia-Gray

EDIT: spelling so I don't look like a total idiot.

Linda you are a wonder!!!!!

Does it make sense to give people instructions on how to sign up for O/Net? Do they need to sign up in order to indicate their donation on the page? Or should donors be directed to an easier way to sign up, perhaps to have them email someone with the info who could do it for them?

I may have not understood something but this seems like it is missing...

Linda....fantastic!!! A true work of Love!

Thanks a bunch. Just got back from work and your light shines through all that you've done. I'm e-mailing and calling family and friends to prepare them for the fund-raising.

More team hugs! <3

Linda, your work is beautiful. I have one question, though. In the example you gave in the workspace, you say that if group A got $3,000 and the others got none, that on Dec 23 group A would get all $3,000, and therefore B,C,D,or E would lose their opportunity for full funding. Would it follow that if group A got $10,000 and the others got none, that on Dec. 23 group A would get all $10,000?

Maybe I missed something (quite likely). I just continually plug away at my desire for all 5 groups to get full funding, and I hate to see them lose that chance on Dec. 23.

I have added instruction on how to become a member.

Phyllis, the scenerio you have described is correct. It is hard for me to imagine it would happen but it is correct. This at least sees that the money being made available to us by Omidyar Network, LLC is not left in thier account rather than being used to help someone with this project. We could change the date til later if that would make you more comfortable.

Linda, thank you, I love your suggestion of a later date. What about December 28th? At that point, you could hand out the general fund dropcash to try to help all reach $2500. Then, any extra funds that groups had accumulated could be handed out (through some to-be-devised system) until we reach our $12,500! :)

A special team hug to you!

Linda and Phyllis -- I like this idea and thanks for thinking beyond the box. The 28th sounds good to me. A little more time would certainly help. I love our team!<3

Linda,

I know we Brits always say the opposite of what we mean (i.e. "not at all bad" when we mean "absolutely brilliant!" and "not so good" when we really mean "verging on the catastrophic"), but when, 15 posts ago, I said:

As always, Linda's template workspace is just ace.

I really did mean it! Now that you've added

  • the Dropcash Box (that, incidentally, Phyllis, would make a $10K-0-0-0-0 scenario virtually impossible. And that's a distribution not an emoticon ;))
  • helpful highlighting of headings in bold
  • the guide to how to join (without it sounding like sending a PIN number to a blind person with instructions on how to receive a copy of the same PIN in braille - although I think I might tweak it a little re. shining some light on bookmarks, if I can find out what they are/how to use them. I only know how to use this kind!)

So, Linda, now that you've made all these helpful additions plus agreeing to a 28th December $2,500 cap (hurraay!), and I already thought it was "just ace" (meaning as good as it could be), it's definitely Just Ace of Trumps now!

:)

Does this mean I get to give out on my birthday? How much cooler can that be?:)))(That is if I understood this correctly)

My, we are a team of all the talents!

Wouldn't it nice if Marissa could be sending on the dropcash funds on her birthday!

Only problem with that is the fact that it was Linda who set up the dropcash and Linda is the one who all the money will go to. At least in the short term!

I propose Marissa and Linda to jointly distribute the dropcash money along lines that we've all agreed in advance.

:)

Marissa will have her own money to distribute with her print and card sales! We just need to make sure that we distribute designated funds before the caps are lifted.

December 1st is already here in Thailand but I know things don't start for many more hours since California and PST are 15 hours behind me. I will make it a point to remove all of David's warnings at the proper time tomorrow. I am also waiting til that time to make a contribution to the Giving Project ... that will mean $124 for Rehydration programs [Child Health Foundation ICDDR,B (Bangledesh)]. I have wanted to join the Giving Project but as David has pointed out, it is difficult to donate to things in the US from outside of the country. I needed to make that monthly contribution with earned monies not savings. Earlier this week I lined up a web site administrative job that will pay me in US $ so I now have the income to do that! And I am thrilled that it is going to grow so much so quickly for something that means so much to me!

OK....I finished evaluating the 25 term papers that were handed in this afternoon so I need to get to bed. (After those papers I need a stiff drink...but alas....I guess I will have to pass!!!!)

Hope all of you are having a great day!

I don't know why I feel like I have to keep announcing to you all that I'm a bit slow on the uptake; surely it's obvious by now! The drop cash box is a very important part and I want to make sure I understand it.

Nancy Peddle responded to a comment on the previous discussion page about widgets and this Internet Fund Raising All on One Page link. She asked if I could help with the Lemon Aid Web Site. I'm all about helping but my skills are meager.

Actually it seems quite simple--when I hear myself saying that it's time to beware--So this is more of a question:

The Drop Cash Campaign is great. I don't think it particularly useful to multiply the number of fund raising widgets. But it is very useful to get Drop Cash Badges for the WDI proposal in as many places as we can. It seem simple Directions for Making a Badge I would like to add a Drop Cash badge at my blogs and I suspect that Nancy would like one to put on her Lemon Aid Fund donations page. In fact it seems like the more people who put the badge on their Web pages the better.

Maybe I'm missing something very important. If not perhaps Linda Nowakowski would be so good as to send the script to me for the Drop Cash Badge so I can put it up at my blogs.
