How to post and edit loan applications

• No new loan applications may be posted in May without prior permission from Christina.

NOTE: For Agents who have cleared at least 5 loan applications through the review process we are going to migrate from the MicroSuccess learning thread to a new thread/workspace in the Life in Africa group. It's going to take some time to set it up so be patient.

Please help others clear their applications if you don't have any to work on, and meanwhile send Christina a list of any new clients you plan to post applications for in May.

• Only the agent who posted the application and LiA's appointed editors may edit it. To edit an application you posted, click on the link to it in the list at the bottom of this page, then click "edit" in the brown bar.
• After you have saved your changes, contact the editor to let them know so they can proceed with helping you finalize the application.
• The list is reviewed at least twice weekly. Applications appearing on this list in bold are ready for the WE Center's next loan review committee sitting.
• Those not appearing in bold still need editing.

Application Instructions

1. Include all of the following information

Business Name: (example: Mary's Charcoal)

Loan Description:

include the following paragraphs in the loan descriptions:

1. This paragraph introduces the person to the potential lender. Who s/he is, where they come from, how many children they have, what they do.
2. This paragraph tells about some of the challenges they have faced in their lives and how they have overcome them.
3. This paragraph introduces the loan plan. here you describe the business, what it involves, and why the borrower has chosen to do this. If anyone will be employed to run the business, mention that and describe who that person is.
4. This paragraph talks about what will happen when the loan works out well. How much does s/he expect to earn. If this is a business expansion, tell the lenders how much was earned before and what the new earnings will be. Mention the loan repayment period and any savings the borrower is putting toward the budget.
5. Conclude the application with a detailed itemized budget.

Photo Rules and Tips for i4c Agents

1. Take an appropriate photo!

• Borrower photos taken at the WE Center will not be allowed on any applications posted after 1 May 2007.
• If the client will invest in an existing business, the photo should be of that person at their place of business.
• If the client will invest in a new project, the photo should be of that person at home. Feel free to include other family members, especially those who may be involved in the plan.
• Every photo should clearly show the face of the borrower. If your photo is too dark, try using a flash.
• photos that are blurry or that have fingers/camera straps showing are not acceptable.

2. Select the correct photo address

After you've uploaded an appropriate photo to flickr:

Go to the main page of your Flickr account

Find the picture of the person you need, and click on it

A new page will open with a large version of that photo on it

Right click on the large photo that you see

copy the image/link location

Paste the link location into the loan application you are editing (see below for how to make it show on Onet)

3. Making your photo show on Onet

Where you want the photo to appear in an Onet post, type the following against the left side of the text box

then leave 1 space

then paste a photo address that starts with http:// and has a .jgp in it somewhere near the end

Click preview before you click save to make sure it worked

4. Troubleshooting photos on Onet

• If the photo address does not have a .jpg in it somewhere near the end, then your photo will not show because you have the wrong location. See point 2 above and try again.
• Spaces are important - too few or two many can mess things up. If you are having trouble with the instructions above, here's another try. Start at the left side of the text box and type dot dot space image colon colon space then paste the image location. Click preview to make sure it worked before you save.
