I am Jonah Khamathew Cherutich I am a student at the University of Nairobi studying Bachelor of Arts in social Work. I will clear my degree programme in August this year, 2005. I come from one of the marginalised communities in Kenya called Marakwet .

I have worked in Nairobi Children's Remand Home, and surely these kids have gone through a hell of problems. this has given me the opportunity to imagine and share with all of us who use this service of omidyar.

It is a good experience working with children who come from different parta of communities and most of whom have been abused either by their parents, siblings, relatives or even strangers.

There is a young boy called Odhiambo who witnessed the killing of his mother by his father using a butchers knife. He says"I cannot forget that fateful day that my mother was butchered like a goat"

This leaves most of us as Social Workers and other friends who are always viewing humanity and life as precious to see such children going through such expereinces.

May the society learn to accept the gift of life without necessarily thinking about eliminating people's life.

What bothers is that "if such cases happen in Kenya, what about volatile regions of Darfur, Somalia among other areas?

It is the longiness of my heart that we will have a free society where life will be viewed as a precious gift from God.
