ACTION TANK
Overall goal
To promote a way of seeing the world that is about our journey to see the whole (individually and together) - which is beyond our sight - by noticing the cracks in the world and healing them (see Leuwynda's story of cracks in the INTRODUCTION).
See other photos and stories from the book.
Much of the responsibility for promoting the book is up to the teachers and students who have been a part of the project to date. And, a lot will be up to me as the author of the book. So, I am hoping that many friends and colleagues will be willing to help get the word out. ~ Tony
Details
- Buy advanced copies of the book now -- buy it from the author and the funds will support the project. And, insert "Proud Owner of" button in your o.net profile (code is on this workspace page).
- The book is expected to be released April/May 2007 and will cost $24.95.
- It will be published by Chronicle Books and will be in most major books stores across the country
- A film by Bryan Donnell will hopefully correspond with the book's release
- A photography exhibition will tour galleries and public spaces across the country (beginning sometime in 2007)
- Since 1992, Tony Deifell has worked on this project strictly as a volunteer, teaching and putting together the book. Shirley Hand & Dan Partridge (two other teachers of the class) have also contributed their time to the book, along with many others.
Needs
- help build buzz - spread word-of-mouth to people who are networking types or thought leaders.
- join the SEEING-BEYOND-SIGHT CHALLENGE - a viral marketing campaign on Flickr.com (thread managed by O/net member Jessica Longo)
- hosting book signings or other promotional events (in 2007)
- help with bulk sales of books (10 to 100+) - need to sell 10k which is a very high print run for a photography book, and for a first-time author
- promotional quotes from famous people or thought leaders that might be used on the back of book or in promotional material (we need help opening doors to such people across a broad array of disciplines: leadership, spirituality, civil rights, education, art).
- fundraising for a photography exhibition and film that will tour nationwide
Early publicity
- Utne Magazine article May/June 2005

| [1] | I would be interested in making a/the website accessible to the blind. Know the basics, but no details. For example: I would find it useful for blind people to be able to listen to sound files that might be related to the pictures (I can imagine that -- for a blind person -- a sound file is worth a thousand lines of text). |
