During the event press may be limited to two sessions (morning lifestyle interviews and evening event management) to limit the number of big cameras clicking around the joint. The camp will feel strange enough without taking tons of pictures each day.
- Calls have been made to the LATimes for repositionable notes and we should have rates on those within a week (their marketing team is scrambling to keep up with our good ideas!).
- Teaser copy is provided below (originally written for the AMO newsletter, please adapt for your needs).
- Sent inquiry e-mails/story ideas to the California Report (with a focus on the Sudanese populations in California), Marketplace (with a focus on the economic impact of divestment), and These Days (with a focus on the Sudanese population in San Diego).

CAMP DARFUR BRINGS GENOCIDE TO LOS ANGELES
Five Day Refugee Camp in LA April 7 – 11, 2006
Los Angeles, CA: March 28, 2006 - An interactive awareness and education event brings attention to the ongoing genocide in Darfur. Giving individuals an opportunity to make a difference, the Camp Darfur refugee camp near LAX in Los Angeles welcomes guests for five days of open discussion and interactive action.
On Friday, April 7, 2006 at 6:00PM a coalition of religious, civic, and human rights organizations open Camp Darfur. Lennox Middle School, located at 11033 Buford Ave., Lennox, CA 90304, will host Camp Darfur through April 11th within easy access from the 405 and 105 highways.
This event raises awareness and examines the Darfur region of Sudan’s humanitarian crisis and genocide. Concerned activists, celebrities and guests from many countries will come together united as one voice to remember the victims of past genocides and to make a call to action to end the genocide in Darfur today.
Camp Darfur features five days of interactive presentations including music, video, film, photography, expert speakers, legislators, and dialogue. Survivors of this and past genocides will share their experiences, and the meaning of “Never Again” will be explored. Visitors will learn about and experience the life of refugees while some guests camp out, fast and learn what it takes to survive.
FilmAid International is inviting celebrity hosts to share their favorite films about these struggles with the Strongest Survivors Filmfest on Friday April 7 and Saturday April 8. DJ Spooky and FilmAid guests will host the opening event with speakers to include Congresswoman Maxine Waters. New documentaries along with poignant films that address genocide, displacement, and the fight for survival will be presented.

Drive to Stop Genocide in Sudan
A few pieces of outreach around the Drive to Stop Genocide Now effort.
- Link for folks to sign up for the bus trip: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=639291913208. We also need folks willing to drive with the bus to the unity dinner and rally on the 29 and 30 April.
- A letter introducing the effort
- A flyer people can print and distribute -- it would be great if tons of these were available at the camp. I'd be happy to pay for b/w copies or perhaps 11x17 "posters"?
- Contact address for all Drive-related information and planning is Esther Sprague at ggcc@ggcc.org
