Brad could you link to Lars' workspace?

I support Lars as a candidate. His leadership skills are well-known. I think he would do an excellent job.

I support Lars as candidate. Does this "nomination" count as it was not self nomimated? Hmmmmm. Only the shadow knows for sure.

I don't see where Lars has indicated his interest.

No it appears that he hasn't. I guess Brad "started it", and all I'm doing is "pushing" the idea.

BTW: I start the nominate board members workspace for this purpose a couple days ago -- please do add more names that you would like to see "step forward on their own".

Okay, I'll take the cue. You can count me as "self-nominated." Is there something else I should do? Thanks to everyone who PM'd me with your "push" and votes of confidence.

I look forward to your nomination workspace. I do have some misgivings about the pressgang approach to your nomination.

I wish you strength and peace on this O.net journey.

what are your misgivings, peter? i simply take it as a sign that after all, i might be of some service to this process. not sure that i'd self-nominate otherwise.

i'll work on that workspace later tonight...

Indeed, consistent and dedicated with a sense of humour.

Not afraid to put his hat in the ring.

A chancer AND a dancer.

Thanks big Dom :) FWIW, here are my answers to the questions: http://www.omidyar.net/group/tra nsition/ws/larshasselbladtorres/

Are we supposed to discuss this here? I look forward to hearing your thoughts, concerns.

Thanks for getting this started, Brad.

Okay, since I was able to answer a few questions, I hope I'm entitled to one I hope folks will help to answer:

What criteria would you use to make the judgment around whether or not you'd move to a particular online community to carry out the work you've been doing here on O.net?

Lars asked:

The opportunity to cross-pollinate ideas, work outside silos, and leverage assets (IP/Skills/Connections/Cash), with people I respect and trust.

Press gang? He wasn't actually hit with anything!

Peter, thanks! On your first criteria, could you go into a little more detail: what would a "good" opportunity to cross-pollinate ideas look like? In other words, how would I know it if I saw it from your standpoint? I'll keep the other points on the back burner for now.

Except a deluge of PMs perhaps. :)

Sure. That might require some back and forth. But I've been inagreement with some of your positions on O.net as a place where an artist can exchange ideas with a business person, and vice versa.

Peter,

which positions?

And: do you view the membership of omidyar.net as consisting (entirely) of "artists" and "business-persons"?

Also (both to Peter and Lars): do you feel the goal that the board should be working towards is a solution that might "satisfy" 70 or 700 or 7000 present members or a solution that might "satisfy" 7 billion people worldwide (including present members)?

BTW (just an aside): Do you sometimes search for "artists" and/or "business-persons" and/or "businesspersons" and/or "cross-pollination" and/or something like that?

Two part answer (doncha love 'em!):

  • Ultimately, the board should be working to understand the shared need(s) of *active o.netters and to recommend a solution - or solutions - that responds to that.

  • In my personal opinion the solution should:
    • Have a set of tools comparable to what O.netizens have become used to and enjoy here;
    • Enable easy integration with data O.netters wish to bring with them
    • Enjoy a substantial user base
    • Be scalable
    • Have a narrow issue-focus, or the capacity to narrowly address multiple issues

FWIW I rarely - if ever! - conduct a search for just "artists" - would often be accompanied by one or several modifiers, like "collage" artists...

[Edited to add] *This is tricky, as Peter point out below. I'd say "active" - for now - in the sense of anyone following and contributing substance to this "Transition" discussion.

WOW !!!

I'm intrigued!!

Why?

(I think I am probably misunderstanding you -- could you elaborate on what you mean? [it's a little "sketchy" for me])

think about o.net and how its actually set up so that ON can work internally without us really ever knowing. If I were in that office environment, and had to walk in through a foyer that looked like the Cat in the Hat just had a birthday party as it were, well I might think about giving the squatters a boot too ;)
