This thread has been created to consider Anne Marie as a member of the Transition Board.

As a member of the board, Anne Marie will inform the decisions related to how and where omidyar.net community members will continue their good work after omidyar.net is archived.

Here's more information about the Board Role.

Here's AnneMarie's nomination workspace.

Anne Marie,

on the workspace you link to above, you answer the following question this way:

• Why you? What's the perspective you'd bring to the board?

Even though I may not speak loud or often, since October 2004 I feel I have managed to stay aware of much of the action happening here over the years. I care about the members who are hoping to continue making good things happen and it would be my pleasure to consider all options to offer a smooth transition.
  1. since you do not speak much, I have difficulty knowing your qualities as a "leader" (I feel members of the board should be aware of the leadership roles they are aiming to take on). What can you say to indicate your qualifications as a leader?
  2. How do you know which of "the members [...] are hoping to continue making good things happen"? Which members does this exclude?

Thanks!

:) nmw

hi nmw,

thank you for exploring my nomination further :D I chose to offer my perspective as a Servant Leader to the Board Role....as a steward of the community assets here. I wish to serve the members while staying focused on achieving results in line with omidyar.net's values and integrity.

My ABCD lens is strongly focused on inclusion - although inclusion here can only refer to members who have participated so I am looking forward to forthcoming data

thank you all for your consideration.

I don't understand why you think that way -- what do you mean when you say "participation"?

Hmmm -- I have been waiting eagerly for you, Anne Marie, to participate in this discussion, but it seems to me that you are not participating. You've logged in to o.net several times, but you are not responding to what I consider to be a pretty straightforward question.

Is there a problem?

i am listening nmw

participated = contributed content (more than just a single comment)

OK, that's what I would think too: the really highly engaged members contribute alot of content and also respond to others who are contributing content -- that seems very intuitive to me.

Of course there have been some members who have contributed alot of content, but that content was not really all that welcome. Time and again we have noted that the feedback system really worked quite well to separate the wheat from the chaffe.

So I would say it is not just the volume of content/participation that matters, but indeed the "quality". I believe it is the combination of quantitatively valued content (in terms of feedback) and also the qualitatively valued content (in terms if labels/tags) that makes for the most potent measure of contributions that "make good things happen" collaboratively.

All of these things (and others, too) contribute to what I would consider to be "participation", and there are indeed many good examples of lots and lots of high quality participation happening -- not only among the members who are presently nominated as board candidates, but also among entire omidyar.net membership.

Interestingly, I do not think we have any way of figuring out which members have participated only by reading (or perhaps also by giving feedback). For example, you say you have not been very outspoken on omidyar.net, but you have given away about 8.5 thousand feedback points. But there is (almost) no way for us to see those "feedback" contributions that you have made, so that does make it hard to see how you have actually contributed.

This is yet another reason why I so strongly advocate to remove anonymous feedback: the more transparency, the better -- and that way it would also be alot easier for all to see how you have contributed to omidyar.net.

I think this transition may in the long run actually become a great opportunity for us to improve the methodology for measuring the level of participation of each member on omidyar.net.

And that would really be wonderful! (see also the Same as it Ever Was)

:) Thanks!

Great! Glad to see you stepping forward Anne Marie.

I enjoyed reading your workspace, and I appreciate your answers to the questions.

Anne Marie can see through the comments to the threads connecting them. She seems to often listen both in person and here on ONet, but I would consider this to be a valuable asset when working with a group of energetic and opinionated leaders.

Anne good you stepped out for nominations as a board member.I think its great as regard to gender balance. I love the way you respond to the questions, when norminated please speakout for the communities and Ialso think, you have to prepare for public life as an elected member of the Board. My success and victory.

Something really stood out when I read your reply (below): you referred to yourself as a Servant Leader. IMO, this is a challenging form of leadership, and you have demonstrated your abilities both on and off-line for years...

I support your nomination to the board.

Not biased, just lucky to be related... (And can I say that I would support you, and honor you just the same if we weren't sisters?)

Everyone is biased -- people who are aware of their own biases are better able to deal with them than people who are unaware of them.

Norbert, have YOU personally met everyone and I am not sure what you mean by bias.

From my point of view (bias), Anne Marie would definitely be a cuter board member than YOU -- but maybe I'm prejudiced (because although I've met Anne Marie, I haven't met YOU ;)...

IF you can imagine a junk yard dawgg that was beat with an ugly-stick, you'd pretty much have a fairly good image of yours truly. Saying someone is better looking than me is like saying beaches got sand.

Of course, Anne Marie gonna be prettier than me. I'd say she was less biased as well because I am biased as hell.

I also admit that I haven't met everyone!

I have met Anne Marie, RicHie and Norbert (and a 100+ other onet members). And I think you shine with passion of making good things happen each in your own way. I didn't realize cute had merit in this operation. That will change my approach.

I am very biased toward Anne Marie, I admit it for full transparency. I think she is deeply insightful, warm, and yet reserved in a most elegant way. I am profoundly honored to call her a friend.

Jean, you still thrill me with that honest, open praise thing; it is such an enlightened Zen approach. You really are special. Love RicH

When I was a kid, special meant handicapped. Are you pointing out my disability RicHie? ;-P That might work against my cute factor or something.

Anne Marie, would you be interested in working with me on managing a master list of groups and people along with status on transition, contact information, champion name, and forwarding information? We are talking about managing it on the http://o.wagn.org site where we can crunch the data with various queries.

I always thought that there was a bit of the "Jimmy Olsen" candor -- in that Norbert -- which is meant to be a complement :)

Please carry on with this line of questioning :)

I didn't even know you were handicapped, Darling, and in the beauty department, I am certainly the handicapped one! I think the winking thing is hot though.

WOW!! Bravo, Jean! YOU go, Grrrl!! The wagn adventure sounds like a ton of work, but will certainly be a great boon to whoever is on the board.

Can YOU ladies believe, that at this late date in OUR history, I almost said, "to whoever is manning the board?" I should be scratched just for that little remark.

Massive mea culpas and I owe any WOMEN who apply a good cup of coffee. I might be talked into baking biscuits for the rara avis among you. Is there a plural for rare avis?

Apologies and love to all.

Questions about wagn? Ask here.

Perhaps we should start a thread on managing the transition community-wide? Whoever lands on the board can have our ideas listed there.

And RicHie, you know my handicap very well, as we talked about my arm when we were in Canton together. Thanks for the support to us ladies. I do appreciate a good cup of coffee.
