Transition Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
This page is a work in progress and will be added to as additional clarity is required.
| A: | All the content created through September 6 was archived, in place. Through the end of 2007, existing omidyar.net members will be able to sign in and access their "get archive" files and will be able to edit the "About Me" section of their profiles. Otherwise no content can be added or edited, no tags applied, no ratings given, etc. |
| A: | At least until the end of March 2009. Since members won't be able to log in after 2007, the groups still configured to be read by members only will disappear on December 31, 2007. |
| A: | Check Where We're Going for recommended platforms where you can continue to work together. |
| A: | You may want to put contact information on your profile so others can find you. Be mindful, however, that if you put your contact info in the clear, anyone on the net can find it (including spammers). Already, some members are coming up with creative ways to share their info. |
| A: | After September 7, visitors to omidyar.net can only read content and only members can download the all-at-once archive files and edit the "About Me" section of their profile. |
| A: | The PM system will be disabled as of September 7 as part of removing the interactive functionality of the site. If there are people you wish to be able to send messages to after September 7, we suggest you reach out to them now to establish alternate contact methods. |
| A: | That is correct after September 7. |
| A: | You can always copy and paste small sections of content. You can also use a one-click operation to download an archive of all the content you've ever contributed to omidyar.net, or to download the entire contents of a group on omidyar.net. |
| A: | To download your personal content, go to your profile by clicking on your name near the top right of the page. Click on the tab called "get my archive" on the right. Then click on the link "Download My Content". |
| A: | To download a group's content, go to any page in the group and click on the brown "get archive" tab (on the right side). Then click on the links to download. You can choose whether or not to include the files of the group. |
| A: | Your personal content includes:
- all discussions you started
- all comments you have made separated into two folders:
- the folder "your_words_discussions" contains only comments that you have made.
- the folder "all_words_discussions" includes the entire context - your comments plus comments by others.
- latest versions of all workspaces you have ever edited
- results of all polls you have voted in
- your personal news and all comments made on those news items
|
| A: | The group content includes:
- the group's about page (all the content but no feedback scores)
- all discussions
- all workspaces
- polls (just the aggregate results page, no "who voted" info)
- files (made available only as a separate checkbox with warning of total size of all files to be downloaded)
|
| A: | You can post your own content wherever you like. Keep in mind, though, each member owns their own content so you need to get permission from the author if you want to publish someone else's words elsewhere on the Internet. |
