I suppose I'll get around to making my profile as extensive as others have done, but the basics are this:
I am defined by my intense determination to contribute to collaborative efforts to improve the world. I feel that technology is all too often employed to extend the past, not bridge to the future. Billions are spent making the old way faster, rather than considering that an entirely new way could be cheaper, faster, and more valuable.
I do not believe that a top-down prescribed solution is a solution at all. I appreciate donations and those who make them, but I subscribe to the Confucian aphorism that giving fish will feed someone for a day, teaching them how to fish will feed them and their community forever. I believe that people are eminently capable of helping themselves, if only they are supported to the extent that threshold momentum can be achieved. I believe in Grameen. I believe we are only at the beginning of distributed collaboration. Convergence between MMORPGs, Credit Derivatives, and Microfinance is quietly happening, and when more people see it, we're going to be able to help an order of magnitude more people help themselves out of poverty.
The typical profile details:
Entrepreneurial Interests: Risk Transfer, Universalizing Credit, Cross-border Transaction Systems, MMORPG markets, Microfinance, Monetary Policy Tools, Medical Product Design
Educational Background: Stanford University Engineering, Yale University Technology Management for Asia, various scholarships, postgrad research in Japan
