I'm holding my next workshop, New Media and Infectious Good in New York from 9 AM to 5 PM in New York, Oct 4, 2006. We'll continue our exploration of ways to propagate NanoFinance activities using a "viral" model. Gavin White of Video Volunteers, recently named a 2006 Tech Museum laureate will be there, and it is being hosted by Grassroot Soccer. Drop me a note at munnecke@gmail.com if you are interested in attending.

Thanks, Darlene... we took lots of videos that I am just now trying to get downloaded... here is one of Gavin White of Video Volunteers

Adam Mastrelli, a professional actor/comedian with a wonderful "better world" orientation ad-libbed a little in front of the camera as an experiment in creating a YouTube (or elsewhere) character to host uplifting videos. The idea (bad screenwriting/good acting) was that he would be an underground leader of the "Better World Liberation Front":

here is his video

I've asked Silas Haggerty of Smooth Feather Productions to work on the NanoFinance project video. He has many hours of video of Africa already, and is quite active with Grassroot soccer as a volunteer. I have 4 hours of my own video, mostly rather boring lectures. Hopefully, he'll be able to develop a story line that makes the topic more engaging, as told through the eyes of a woman from Mali who learns about savings-led microfinance and then teaches 10 other villages how to start their own self-help groups. Since there is no start up capital required, this idea can spread "virally" without intermediaries. Right now, we're shooting for a 5 minute YouTube or CurrentTV release.

I was particularly moved by Ethan Zohn's story of his "Do Something Moment" during Survivor Africa, which caused him to donate his $1 million show winnings to start Grassroot Soccer for HIV/AIDS education in Africa. His blend of personal integrity, generosity, and sense of activism are amazing. Although he is a soccer player rather than a network theoretician, Grassroot Soccer has many interesting aspects of a viral network, using peer to peer coaching... I've decided to do more to support them and their program personally.

I'll be posting more videos soon as I figure out how to get my new Mac Desktop computer to work...

The workshop (and the following Images and Voices of Hope retreat I attended convinced me that I wanted to focus more on both "old" and "new" media for communicating my vision. I'll be following up on the Do Something Moments theme, perhaps around the theme of "September 12" with a focus on global catharsis.... stay tuned.

And, I've decided to schedule a follow on workshop in NY as a thinly veiled excuse to come back to NY to attend the opening of Darlene's Art Show at the MorganLehman Gallery in Chelsea Dec 14. Here's a photo of Darlene with Nipun Mehta:

Here is Ethan Zohn's amazing presentation at the workshop, describing his Do Something moment in Africa during his time on Survivor Africa TV show. This caused him to donate his $1 million prize winnings to start Grassroot Soccer.

Here is Tobey Gordon Dichter's presentation on Generations Online, obey Gordon Dichter, founder of Generations Online http://generationsonline.org/ talks about ways of using the Internet for the elderly.

Internet technology is making the world a smaller place, but only for those who have the know-how and the access to it. The oldest generations are the least likely to use this technology, but are the most likely to benefit from its communications potential.

The mission of Generations on Line is to promote this technology to enhance the quality of life of older people:

and finally the rest of the videos.

Dean Landsman and Howard Greenstein gave an overview of New Media technology:

The Reverend Lyndon F. Harris was the priest in charge of the relief ministries at Ground Zero offered through Saint Paul's Chapel next to the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

And this is my introduction to the workshop, describing some of the network effects of new media and ways of connecting this to Infectious Good:
