Conference in Chicago and my Temporary Name Change...

I just registered to go to the O-net conference in Chicago that Ted Ernst is organizing. And to do my part to spread the meme, changed my name to "Arthur Brock is going, R U?"

I'm primarily adding this news entry in case somebody clicks on my name to figure out where I'm going and if they should be going there too.

You can find out more about this conference and have the opportunity to meet other great people from the O-net community.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Arthur, I'm really looking forward to seeing you in Chicago. I am one of the organizers, but am not the only one, nor was I the one with the idea, nor am I doing all that much work for the conference. This is truly a conference for and by o/net members. I am collecting the money, that's true, but Luke, Julie, Michael, Michael, Meron, and Christina have all done a ton or work to make this thing happen. See you there!

Folks I could probably never make one of these if I have to fly. Any chance there will ever be one in Phoenix? Even Vegas would be doable.

Anyone may host one wherever they like. This is totally member-organized, planned, funded and promoted. Those of us working on this one have always hoped that it was an easily replicable design and that others would go ahead and do that.

Thanks Ted, something to think about...

And talk with Julie about Vegas. She was one of the first proponants of doing a conference and she wanted it there. She lives in Elko.

Hi Vinie -- where do you live? Maybe we can work together to get something going out west. I thought Las Vegas would be good for many reasons -- cheap airfare, open space (yet a big city) and O.net is working with the Las Vegas face-to-face Community at large.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to misassign the credit for organizing the event. I was assuming more people were involved. I guess it was just that Ted has most successfully penetrated my awareness with the news.

Thanks to Julie, Luke, Michael, Michael, Meron and Christina as well!

And now Carla and Moses and others are getting very involved in the scholarship efforts, helping people get there that wouldn't otherwise be able to. Very cool!

Uhh... As you may have noticed, I changed my name back a bit pre-maturely. As it turns out I am presenting at a different international gathering about alternive currencies that week and won't make it to Chicago. Mickki Langston is going in my stead.

I will have to see all of you another time. :(

It'll be great to have Mickki with us, but was looking forward to having you both attend :-(

There are a bunch of possibilities for future conference gatherings currently under discussion, and some planning under way: http://www.omidyar.net/group/conference/news/18/

and generally at the conference group:
