Here's a link to a concept map that illustrates the strategy of the Tutor/Mentor Connection. http://tinyurl.com/2p2dv3

The application can be found at http://cmap.ihmc.us/

A guy name Dave Pollard does some very good concept mapping on his blog at http://blogs.salon.com/0002007/c ategories/businessInnovation/200 7/02/13.html#a1780

O.net will not let me upload files right now so I uploaded the connection graphics I am playing with to the NetworkWeavers pages at Aboutus. I welcome comments. There are nine slides so far - find the links at the bottom of the page.

I added a graphic to my blog at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/ 2007/05/creating-networks-of-pur pose.html that I encourage you to look at.

It shows seven steps that lead to kid living in poverty having extra adult support and learning that helps them succeed in school, stay safe in non school hours, etc.

The first step is building and maintaining a database. This is what is missing in most community building efforts. If no one maintains a master database of who all is doing tutoring/mentoring in Chicago, then no one can invite these people together consistently, or build a community wide understanding of where such programs are needed, where they currently operate, etc.

People don't respond the first time someone invites them to come together and it takes a long time to build relationships between people, let alone between organizations where the key people keep changing. Thus, when you look at this graphic, you need to think of this as a process that grows over a period of years.

I mention this because in the graphics you've posted on About Us, I encourage you to think of a way to show your process over time, and the role of the network weaver as the person maintaining the database and drawing members of a community together with some frequency and some sense of purpose.
