I was born in Hong Kong and raised mostly in Singapore. I grew up in a Buddhist family and during my teen years of soul searching, I became more and more determined to end suffering of all sentient beings.
I will never forget my exchange with my college advisor when she asked me what I wanted to do after graduation. I told her I wanted to reform politics from being a system based on calculation, power and punishment to one that embraces difference, surrender and love. She said, "You want to change the world." I nodded and exclaimed, "YES!" "There's no such program," she said almost without feeling.
So - long story short, my life mission is to change the world by rejecting existing power stuctures and create the interdisciplinary field of Political Arts.
Marital status: happily married to David J. Beal.
My interests: post-colonial reconstruction, third world feminism, human rights, animal rights, Jacques Derrida, Karl Marx, Helene Cixous, Trinh T. Minh-ha, Michel Foucault.
Project that has captured my soul: i-ACT, Camp Darfur and everything that SGN does. It's been a transformative experience that heals and lights a new path for constructive, global change.
