About

My name is Thierry Koehrlen

After an education in business and philosophy, I immediately jumped into the exciting high tech entrepreneurship world and never left it since then. In the process, I traveled a lot, lived in a couple of other countries, learned so much and became a high tech executives. But above all I married my wonderful wife and we had four spirited children in 5 years. The latest addition is just a few months old.

I went through a rather disappointing and sad end at my last enterprise software company (from an ethical, relationship and financial standpoint) that affected me deeply.

That specific experience and being a new parent contributed a few month ago to the decision to make a career move by working on something more connected with real life and to contribute at my level to shape a better world. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with great people who are very professional, have a great ethic and mindset.

So today I define myself as a business and social entrepreneur. I am just about to start two new educational projects to help make a difference in the quality of our daily life and build a sustainable "new generation" publishing company.

I am making the biggest professional and financial bet of my life that we can build a business along side a non profit activity from day one. The two helping each other to grow. And I am putting all my very limited personal resources (and more) to make it happen. I only have a few months of runway to make it work.

I have faith that things will work out if everybody puts their heart into the projects. I also benefit from the amazing support of my wife, friends, new colleagues and partners.

Now I am considering a great plan B to secure and help plan A.

I have been thinking of joining the Omidyar Network since I heard about it in 2004 on Pierre's blog. I am glad I finally did it. I look forward to exchanging with the great people gathered here and discuss with them about their exciting projects.
