About

I'm a game developer with an interest in trying to make the world a better place. I'm particularly interested in human needs and development in the poorest parts of the world - i.e. Hunger, disease, education and economic development in Africa and other poor areas.

I started and sold a game company called PopTop Software (developers of Railroad Tycoon 2 and 3 and Tropico). I worked on there for a few years, but left at the end of 2004. I started a new, one-man game company (New Crayon Games) in 2005, focused on casual downloadable games (Bonnie's Bookstore).

I'm also interested in "Serious Games" - games with a purpose, like educating the public about a social issue. I've done a little bit of consulting on one project in this area (the project is now on hold), and have explored a couple others that haven't clicked for one reason or another. If anyone has an interesting proposal in this area, please feel free to float it by me.

I'm also trying to educate myself as a donor. I want to donate my money where it will do the most good. While it is relatively easy to analyze different charities numerically (i.e. which ones have low costs of fund-raising and management), I find it difficult to determine what policies can do the most net long term good, and which charities are most effective in implementing those policies.
