I do volunteer work with refugee resettlement. I am 3 years into one project which is winding down and am just getting involved with Sudanese Lost Boys, Girls & Families in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I find this work extremely rewarding.
I do fundraising, volunteer recruiting and organizing among other things. The Sudanese are amazing, sweet and so dedicated to helping their family trapped in refugee camps in Africa. They are intent upon completing higher education, then going back someday (hopefully) to help their country be peaceful and well-run..
My philosophy = spaceship earth: i.e. healthier countries build a healthier world and we are all one big world country on this one planet. To improve/evolve, I think we have to help each other, Micro and Macro. I am rewarded daily.
I hope my small contribution helps the Sudanese and their families enough that they can focus on education and live a more comfortable life than they had in their first two decades.
I am an architect. I have a fantastic husband, two wonderful stepchildren, a 4 year-old grandchild and a large extended family.
