I wanted to share the wonderful news that I've been contacted via omidyar.net PM by someone in the Ivory Coast (that's near Nigeria, right?) It's rather complicated, involving an assasination, orphans and a large trust fund. I can't tell you more because they ask that I keep it confidential but I stand to clear well over a million US$ by helping these people out.

It looks like from the low feedback that my friend has contacted other people here who have taken his PM the wrong way.

Seriously, I love getting this because I just read a bizarre New Yorker artcle about the most unlikely American getting sucked into a Nigeria scam and now serving time in prison. He was repeatly ripped off and still hopes that the promised money will come through.

Yes, glad to see it.

I'm now remembering that the first time I was solicited for this sort of thing it was by fax, that long ago.

The royalties on the copyright could be worth more than the scam !

This particular scam was actually released under a creative commons license so no royalties necessary. Information wants to be free! And your money also wants to be free of your walley and bank account! :-)

I have now on three occasions received a letter from a Spanish lottery telling me I have won millions of Euros! The first I got it, I was curious, so I telephoned the given contact number. It was funny, because the Spanish chap that I was speaking to (in Spanish), had a distinct Nigerian accent!

Haney,i am disappionted by the way must foreingners promise to help people in developing countries.Do you know that i was involve with a big time Ambassador who promised to take care of orphants in Nigeria, but i became disappionted.Haney, I embark on a serious research to see that the programme become true,i told many people about the project and they responded because of what they stand to benefit from the programme, they all mobilise their people to ensure that they take part in the programme which they did with great expectation.
In fact, Haney,i spend time and money, but all end without a result. The people i involve are looking at me as a 419. People talked that Nigerians are frudulent in their dealings ,are Americans not frudulent?Haney,in Nigeria there are people who are faithful and i can prove that. Its just a peity that must of you that intent doing business in Nigeria often fall into the wrong hands.but that does not mean to say Nigerians are frudulent.

Hello Haney,
Do what you best know how to do.Get the best people that will do their best to see that others are reached by the best things you know how to .The best way to wealth is to invest on people.

Ah, yes, getting about ten of those a day currently.

They've been getting more bizarre of late, even asking me to help liberate funds here in my own country. Not just from Africa but China and Russia too.

Most recent is an appeal from India for me to source raw materials in England to supply the garment trade there.

Huh?

Known as the 419 scam in the UK, there's even a bunch of pranksters who amuse themselves by responding. Typical game play is to mention a devout belief needing demonstration of commitment, eg wearing a fish on one's head and holding a silly placard.
