Dipping My Toes Back In ...

Just a quick note to say hello again and dispel a few rumours ~grins~.

Yes, I've been sick, but only with the same nasty little flu bug that has had so many other people in it's clutches. I'm quite fine.

No, I haven't been "lost to the game" ~winks~ ... but I have been building a new business in order to support the financial demands of the island project, and it got a little too big too fast and ate me for breakfast. S'all good. Will share some of the things I've learned along the way since it may be of use to a few other folks who've set out to blaze this trail.

I did take time away for personal reasons. Part of it was just my inability to manage my time well, and making poor choices here. Sometimes you have to step back to get your priorities straight again, and that's really all that I've done.

Looking forward to reacquainting myself with the community, and so many friends that I've missed.

Hope you're all happy, inspired and well!

Sue.

The other day I saw that our friend Wojo is set to appear in a new film and that made me think of you. Glad to see you back, if you are back. Missed ya, girl!

It's all Meron's fault. She laid this huge guilt trip on me and said I outta be ashamed of myself, right Meron? ~winks~ Kidding, really. She's been my glue while I've been away (conscience, wardrobe ambassador, camp whip, etc.).

Cyn! <hugs> How the heck have you been? So Max is on screen again? Glad to hear it. Can't wait to hear what you've been up to the past few months. Hope life's been treating you kindly, my dear.

Glad to see you posting here Sue!

I have been busy spreading rumors that you are sick. :-)

Very good to hear you are on the mend, and it wasn't anything too serious.

Lars, Did you ever watch Barney Miller? Wojohowitz (sp?) was a sweet, but less-than-bright cop, and I had a huge crush on him. Ted, is right, the actor who played "Wojo" was Max Gail. Last year Sue surprised me by getting Max to write me a birthday poem.

The first time I met Michael Maranda, he brought Max to lunch with him.

Did anyone get a snapshot of Sue while she was dipping her toe(s) in here?

Maybe we could start a celebrity gallery ("look ma, no slippers!")

G'day, eh!

Nice to reconnect with more friends again :^) (wiggling my fuzzy bunny toes at Norbert and sticking out my tongue).

Guess some of you know by now my decision to step out of the Better World Island project. I've received notes from a few people asking me why. I've posted a bit of a note on it over here:

http://www.omidyar.net/group/bwi/news/14/

I am indeed attempting to reconnect at omidyar.net. I'm making some changes to try to get my life more in balance so that I can be of more use to a small number of projects instead of trying to be all things to all people. Kind of a boneheaded attempt on my part the last year, but eventually I figure things out.

So, at the risk of opening up one big old can of whoopass or busting the lid off of Pandora's Box, what things might be best to focus my attention on as I'm reconnecting here? Caveat: I have no stomach for politics or drama ... simply wrung dry ... so maybe someone would be kind enough to throw me a bone in the form of a thread that's made them feel hopeful?

Looking forward to sticking my elbows on the table next to y'all again!

~hugs~

Sue.

Sue,

me too: wiggle wiggle !!

Sure, I can give you a pointer: Resources for Effective Collaboration.

I have also been desperately trying to get people in the Let's make a market idea: I too have oodles of property, and I would love to develop it some more -- and collaboratively (which is the basic idea behind the market and/or "currency" idea -- though I'm quite happy to have someone morph my ideas into something more powerful, exciting, whatever).

There is alot of talk going on about push/pull. I'm not very pushy, but I sure would like to drag some collaborators down my rabbit hole! ;D

Another issue that I have been watching quite closely is political -- freedom of speech has become quite a BIG issue, and I think media conglomeration is something to keep an eye on.

There are quite a few people arriving on omidyar.net that also to build fantastic projects. Linda Nowakowski and Jessica Margolin have been very help been very helpful with Peter's Book Project. Scott Swaney has made some truly mind-blowing artwork for Mark. And Sohodojo Jim and Timlynn have been busy explaining stuff and blasting boxes that appear and block our vision. Those are off the top of my head -- I'm quite sure I'm missing at least a half a dozen others, but I wanna hit "send"...

sue asked:
what things might be best to focus my attention on as I'm reconnecting here

great question! i have been enjoying the NED and FOODCHAIN threads -- lots of great discussion and cooperation there. Of course, I am partial to Peace Tiles 2006 ;P The Invisible Children National Tour is cool, as is the LA Camp Darfur idea, and I always enjoy following Cynthia around. And, everytime David Bale and Ray Brosseuk talks CANS my ears prick. Finally, I am sure you could be mountains of help to LiA as they continue to develop webbed empowerment 2.0 or 3.0 or ...

Are you still skyping?

xoxo

Hey Girl,

Boy,do I hear you on the balance thing. It's hard here 'cause there are so many terrific things happening.

Check out the new Food Chain Collaboration discussion. This is a new, organized way to give of yourself without being flattened. The first beneficiary is our beloved father of Izzie, aka Lars, and his Peace Tiles project. Check it out!

Wow! Thanks a bunch for the great leads into threads where I can reconnect. I'm really looking forward to getting my land feet about me again here.

Haney, so far omidyar.net still looks the same to me, but perhaps that's because I've not ventured in too deeply yet?

BTW ... Better World Island has a brand new pair of owners to shepherd it forward as of today:

http://www.omidyar.net/group/bwi/news/14/

I couldn't be more happy!
