It's almost midnight here in my neck of the great white north, which means it's also almost June 21st, and while I'm wild about it being the first day of summer, there's a whole other reason to shake things up a little -- it's Pierre's 38th birthday :^)

Jump on in and add a little greeting of your own on this digital card to help our host celebrate another year.

Pierre, may the next one be filled with the kind of blessings that you've allowed to be cultivated here a thousand fold.

Salut!

Sue.

I was just singing pretend happy birthday with my son for him today with a pile of mud for a cake and sticks for candles. I gave him "pretend" presents of mud balls that he threw into the river. I hope that your food and presents are a step up from this. Truely, may the next year be joyous, and filled with ever greater meaning and love.

Pierre, I beat you by four months and four days. Trust me that 38 is okay. As long as you can deal with the immediate loss of hair, libido, and... what was the third? Oh yeah, memory.

All the best...!

Wow. Pierre, you've just gone up a notch in my esteem for sharing a birthday with my Grandmother - Francis Pearl Jordan. She was my favorite, well, just about everybody's favorite person in my family. If there is anyone in this world I have looked at as a role model, it would be her.

I often mused that my Grandma's special character might have resulted from being a solstice child. She was a blossoming spring and a long hot summer - someone full of surprises and a drive for new experiences, but always constant in her willingness to love her family, her friends and the rest of humanity with absolute unconditionality. "Frankie" always had an encouraging kind word for everyone, and treated everyone she ever spoke to with the same level of absolute respect for their point of view.

In the 1960s and 70s, she worked in the unemployment office in downtown Compton (South Central LA). She was the only white lady in the office, and one of her greatest moments of pride was when her officemates informed her "she could pass" as one of them. Once, the phone rang in the middle of the night - someone mistook the number for the suicide prevention hotline. 73 year old grandma spent 45 minutes talking to a lesbian who was having problems with her partner, and was happy to feel she'd saved a life that night. She never accomplished anything "big" in her life, but her open and honest heart made her a giant presence in many people's lives.

Happy birthday, solstice child. May the summer years of your life be forever filled with the remnants of spring.

My best,

Christina

Seeing as Pierre has just turned 38, let me add a kid's favorite:

Happy Birthday to you,
Marmelade im Schuh,
Aprikose in der Hose,
Happy Birthday to you!

Let's see if you can "unravel" this present (well, not really sure if the contents are worth the effort... but at any rate, it might be a good test of how much -- at 38 -- you still have an infantile sense of humor ;D)

nmw

ps: Sue, I just woke up -- it's too early for mixed drinks!! ;D
